On 28 March 2006, former President APJ Abdul Kalam proposed reviving Nalanda University during his address to the Joint Session of the Bihar Vidhan Mandal. In 2007, the Bihar Legislative Assembly passed a bill to establish the university. Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new campus in which district in Bihar, with ambassadors from 17 countries also attending the event.
