The Government of India has created three new laws to replace old colonial-era laws.
1st - The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 now takes the place of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) 1860.
2nd - The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023 replaces the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) 1973.
3rd - The Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) 2023 replaces the Indian Evidence Act (IEA) 1872
These new laws are effective from July 1, 2024. They aim to modernize the legal system considering new technology, economic crimes, and organized crimes. For the first time, Community Service has been introduced as a punishment in ___________ of BNS, 2023.
