The chloride content in a water sample is determined using Mohr’s method. For this, water sample is titrated with standard solution of titrant ‘X’ using an indicator ‘Y’. The ‘X’ initially reacts with chloride ion present in water and leads to formation of white colored precipitate and when all the precipitate is formed after that even a small drop of ‘X’ reacts with ‘Y’ leads to formation of red brown colored precipitate. The X and Y are respectively.
1
X = AgNO3 and Y = K2CrO4
2
X = AgNO3 and Y = KMnO4
3
X = K2CrO4 and Y = AgNO3
4
X = KMnO4 and Y = Na2S2O3
