The Supreme Court of India, the highest judicial body and final court of appeal, is empowered under Article 32 of the Constitution to issue writs such as Habeas Corpus, Mandamus, Prohibition, Certiorari, and Quo-Warranto for the protection of Fundamental Rights. Described by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar as the "heart and soul of the Constitution," Article 32 ensures citizens can directly approach the Supreme Court to enforce these rights. The Court comprises the Chief Justice and up to 34 judges, who must meet specific legal experience criteria. A non-legal professional generally makes a person ineligible for appointment as a Judge of the Supreme Court. Upon appointment, judges take an oath before the President or an appointed representative.
