The emerald rainforest is home to an estimated 400 billion individual trees, each contributing to the environmental balance. With this richness of plant life, it's no surprise that it caters to an equally rich animal life.

The Amazon rainforest supports more than 2.5 million insect species and tens of thousands of plants, many of which are not found anywhere else. Among the innumerable peculiar creatures that inhabit the rainforest, the capybara is one. The world's largest rodent, the capybara, is an excellent swimmer and can stay underwater for five minutes to avoid predators.The awe-inspiring biodiversity of the Amazon attributes to its unique climate. The hot, wet climate fosters this robust ecosystem, resulting in rich forest floors replete with decomposing organic material. This decaying matter provides those necessary nutrients for the thriving plants and consequently, the animals that rely on these plants.

Unfortunately, the Amazon Rainforest is under significant threat from deforestation. Logging, farming, mining and urbanization lead to habitat loss—causing an adverse chain reaction throughout the ecosystem. The shrinking rainforest not only threatens its inhabitants but also disrupts the global climate due to a significant reduction in carbon dioxide absorption. Conservation efforts are more critical than ever to protect and preserve this breathtaking and vital lung of the planet.
