Padma Awards, one of the highest civilian awards of the country, were announced for the year 2021 on January 25. These awards are conferred in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. The awards are given in various disciplines, such as art, social work, public affairs, science, and engineering, etc. Shortly after the announcement by the Home Ministry, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said those awarded were exceptional from different walks of life who brought qualitative changes in the lives of others.
