Odisha has colourful fairs and festivals and these are celebrated on many days of the year. The holy journey of Lord Jagannath along with brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra from the Jagannath temple to the divine temple, Gundicha temple is known as the Rath Festival or Rath Yatra. On this occasion these deities sit on three chariots- Nandighosha, Tal Dhwaj, Darpadalan respectively. They stay in the divine temple for nine days and then return to the Jagannath temple. This journey is called Bahuda Yatra. This great festival of Odisha is attended by millions of devotees from India and abroad who pull the holy chariots on the huge Yatra route called Badadanda from the Jagannath temple to the Gundicha temple and back. This festival begins every year on the second day of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Ashadh (June-July). The festival of Lord Jagannath, who is worshipped as the Mahadev of the universe, is celebrated not only in Puri but also in many places in India and abroad
