Passage: The Government has decided to make the wearing of helmet mandatory for both the rider and pillion driver of a motorbike. Till recently, it was not mandatory for the pillion driver which has been changed following this rule. Strict checking will follow to ensure compliance - the minister for Road Transport said.
Is this a good move by the government?
Arguments:
I. Yes. The pillion driver is equally susceptible to road accidents as the driver and he must be protected too.
II. No. Protection of life is the responsibility of an individual and the state should not impose it upon him/her.
III. No. Wearing a helmet will make people drive recklessly since they think they are safe and this, in turn, will create more accidents.
