Studies reveal that expressing gratitude is linked to psychological well-being — it increases happiness and satisfaction with life, and encourages the development of patience and humility.
At a societal level, it acts as a glue, making people generous, kind, and helpful. And where there is a lack of appreciation for the good around you, a person tends to suffer from a sense of self-importance and becomes arrogant and, in effect, a poorer human being. So, everybody needs to learn to practice gratitude consciously.
Remember the story, perhaps apocryphal, of a blind man explaining why he was so thankful to his Maker — because ‘I can hear, talk, walk, eat!’ So, whatever be our position, there is so much for each one of us to be grateful about. As has been suggested, maintaining a journal of the good things happening to you helps as it will make you aware. It will make you a better being and society a better place.
