Long awaited Afghanistan’s peace process is focused to empower the country people for sustainable development by addressing the core and utmost necessity to emerge as a successful nation. "We Want Peace!" and "No War!"- An urgency that enveloped the entire atmosphere in Afghanistan reflecting Afghan people’s quest for peace and stability. The Afghan people’s undaunted spirit is appreciable that echoes ‘the national movement will be strengthened and supported by the people in large numbers, Afghanistan has been witnessing bloodshed for over 40 years of conflict resulting in dismantling growth and prosperity. The emotional toll of the prolonged war is in immeasurable terms and more importantly, the increasing number of casualties reminds the grim picture of the state. Afghanistan’s tremendous potential for trade, connectivity, the geo-political strategic importance and people-to-people contact for inclusive development can take the country to trajectory level has been hampered by escalating challenges. Afghanistan is continuously persuading peace building efforts for the people of the country that is reflective through bilateral ties, regional cooperation programmes and time to time working on Confidence Building Measures (CBM’s). ‘Afghan-led Afghan Owned’ is President Ghani’s approach for sustained peace. Therefore it is very important to strategize an efficient, unified and effective national security apparatus in establishing peace in the country. Corruption is the most pressing issue which the Government of Afghanistan is trying to bring down and it is spelt through President Ghani’s initiative ‘Corruption in recess, Peace in progress’. Afghanistan in the best possible way is seeking initiatives to fulfil the commitment of democracy. The upcoming election in Afghanistan is the reflection of best practice of inclusive governance. With regard to the current situation, the component of peace in Afghanistan also depends on the regional countries stance for seeking collective action centred around solidarity- economic, cultural, political and social till Afghanistan attain stability. Emphasis on the cooperation by regional countries could incentivize to provide a tangible mechanism in establishing long term peace in Afghanistan. The presence of the United States of America for the past 17 years in Afghanistan since the overthrow of the Taliban regime was a commitment to provide longer-term military support for uprooting terrorism in the country. The recent announcement of withdrawing of 7,000 US troops from Afghanistan this year by President Donald Trump will seem to have a detrimental effect at a crucial time of Afghanistan’s Presidential elections slated to July 2019. US’s stance for Afghanistan needs to be in continuation for achieving peace and curbing terrorism. For the upcoming elections, more forces are required in Afghanistan. The U.S must coordinate with Russia, Pakistan and Iran keeping in mind to work for the people of Afghanistan. Pakistan must take a firm step in curtailing terrorism from their soil. India has been extending assistance to Afghanistan mainly in the field of capacity building, education, training and the bilateral relation between the two nations have grown from strength to strength. The complementarities between the two countries obviously make them natural partners. “India firmly believes in the critical role that developmental assistance can play in transforming human lives”. Regional countries must continue to push for Taliban factions to return to peace talks and pick up negotiations for a cease fire from where they let off. The narrative of Afghanistan’s development is much dependent on planned economic agenda which is envisioned through the connectivity potential between Central and South Asia and can be a trade and energy hub in the region. In order to achieve this vision, a political consensus with regional cooperation can bring immense prosperity within and outside the country.
