This era saw a shift from agrarian and handicraft economies to economies dominated by industry and machine manufacturing. It was a transition marked by dramatic changes in both manufacturing and transportation.

Perhaps the most significant effect of the Industrial Revolution was the enormous increase in productivity. The invention and improvement of machinery such as the steam engine, the spinning jenny, and the power loom boosted efficiency in textile manufacturing, leading to a surplus of goods and lower prices. It also allowed factories to employ a greater number of workers.

The Industrial Revolution also fundamentally altered the class structure. The rise of the bourgeoisie, an emerging middle class made up of industrialists, business owners, and professionals, reshaped the societal hierarchy. These individuals, propelled by their newfound wealth and influence, helped catalyze political shifts that would favor capitalist economies.
