Comprehension Passage

Read the given paragraph and answer the following questions.

Jyotiba Phule (1827-1890) was an Indian social activist, thinker, anti-caste reformer, and writer from Maharashtra. Phule also opened schools for girls, educated his wife, started an orphanage, and recommended free and compulsory primary education to the Hunter Commission. His friend, Moro Vitthal Valvekar, was the editor of Subodh Patrika.
