Kanaganahalli near Sannati, Karnataka, features the first-ever sculpture of Emperor Ashoka with his name inscribed, depicting him with his queen and attendants. After the Kalinga war, Ashoka, originally a Hindu, embraced Buddhism and dispatched his son Mahendra and daughter Sanghmitra to Ceylon to propagate the religion. They successfully converted the Ceylonese royal family, aiding Buddhism's spread. Ashoka's grandfather, Chandragupta Maurya, founded the Mauryan Empire by overthrowing Dhanananda in 322 BC, followed by Ashoka's father, Bindusara. Renowned as one of India's greatest emperors, Ashoka expanded the empire extensively. Post Ashoka's death, the empire was divided, with Kunala ruling the west and Dashratha the east.
