Comprehension Passage

Read the following passage and answer the questions-

As soon as she entered, it was clear she was not what Higgins had expected: she was poised, her manner refined beyond the dirt and disarray of her appearance. With an unexpected grace, she approached Professor Henry Higgins and spoke, "I've come to talk about that offer, sir. My name's Eliza Doolittle."

Higgins, taken aback by her audacity and the sudden shift from what he had anticipated, found himself momentarily at a loss for words, so Eliza continued, "Am I to understand that you can teach me how to speak like a lady?"

"Yes, quite," Higgins finally managed. "That was the intention, provided you're willing to work hard."

Eliza's determination was evident as she responded with a surprising calmness that belied her humble origins, "I am. I want to be a lady in a flower shop instead of selling at the corner of Tottenham Court Road. But they won’t take me unless I can talk more genteel."

Colonel Pickering, witnessing this exchange, was intrigued by her ambition and the sincerity in her voice. He asked gently, "And you're willing to pay for these lessons?"

"I am," Eliza confirmed. "I’ve saved up. Five pounds, I have." Her voice, though firm, carried a hint of vulnerability, appealing to something in both men they hadn't anticipated.

There was a moment’s silence as Higgins and Pickering exchanged glances, each assessing the other’s thoughts. Finally, Higgins, with a mixture of scientific curiosity and a challenge he couldn’t resist, declared, "Very well. We'll take this matter on. But understand, Miss Doolittle, it will not be easy."

Eliza, with a nod that signified her acceptance of the challenge, replied, "I know, sir. But I’m ready. I want to change my life."
