The Indian National Movement from 1919 to 1939 was a critical period in India's struggle for independence. In 1920, the Non-Cooperation Movement was launched as a widespread revolt against the British rule. The nationwide campaign was spearheaded by Mahatma Gandhi and primarily involved the relinquishment of British titles and honours, boycott of government educational institutions, law courts, foreign goods and elections held under the auspices of the British. The 1930s heralded another milestone in the national movement: the Civil Disobedience Movement. Initiated with the historical Dandi March, led by Gandhi, it directly challenged the British-imposed salt laws. This era marked significant progress in national consciousness and in structuring the foundation of a free India.
