A rich old lady was steadily losing her eyesight, so she called in a famous doctor who examined her and offered to cure her completely. He demanded a very big fee and the rich lady gladly agreed to pay him the money if he could restore her sight. The doctor bandaged her eyes and carried out the treatment, which took several days. But he was very greedy. He saw many beautiful pieces of furniture with which the house of his patient was furnished and each day, he carried away one of the best pieces till there was hardly anything left.

In the course of time, the lady was completely cured. The bandage was taken off and she could see everything clearly. Then she discovered that almost all her furniture was gone. When the doctor came for his payment, she said,' Look here, doctor, I am by no means cured, for I cannot see my furniture in my house. I am not going to pay you anything. The doctor was thus paid in his own coin. But the doctor refused to leave without his fee. He called the police. When the police came, they tried to interview and asked the old lady why she was refusing the payment when she got the treatment. The lady explained the whole thing and said that she suffered loss of her costly furniture in the process of treatment. She insisted on the return of her furniture before the payment. The doctor was adamant and refused to budge and blamed the police for taking the side of the old lady. The police then took the doctor into custody and put him behind the bars. Thus the old lady turned the tables on the doctor.

The old lady readily agreed to pay the high fee to the doctor because she :

1
knew she had nothing to give him.
2
knew she would pretend to be blind later.
3
wanted to be cured of her weak eyesight.
4
wanted to test the knowledge of the doctor.
