Read the given passage and answer the following questions -
In the remote Alaskan village of Elm Creek, a sudden scarcity of fish was causing unrest and fear among the residents. Many of the villagers relied on fishing for their livelihood, and this sudden shortage was greatly affecting their income. Local authorities were puzzled; the fish seemed to be disappearing from the creek, which was once teeming with salmon and trout, and even with increased inspections and environmental testing, they couldn’t figure out the reason.
Each day, the fishermen would report a lesser and lesser catch, always pointing out the dwindling numbers in the creek. The creek had been a bountiful source of income for the people and it provided food for their tables as well. But the continuing scarcity was resulting in a widespread concern about their future. Moreover, the issue seemed to be selective; only the larger fishes seemed to be missing while the smaller ones were found in abundance.
Marcus, a tenth grader and future marine biologist, decided to investigate the matter. He was worried about the situation and wanted to help his community. Using his saved allowance, he bought a waterproof camera and set it up in the creek to record any unusual activity. From his home, he monitored the live footage, hoping to find something that might explain why the larger fish were disappearing.
As Marcus closely inspected the footage, he spotted a large bear, well known among the village as Old Grizzly, arriving at the creek. The bear looked around, then plunged into the creek and started hunting the larger fish with impressive precision. Marcus was stunned. Old Grizzly, who used to feed on berries and roots, had turned to hunting fish from their creek.
Marcus quickly informed the village council about his discovery, who decided to set up a feeding spot away from the creek to deter the bear. The villagers were relieved and thanked Marcus for his help. Turns out, Old Grizzly had been resorting to fishing due to a berry shortage in the area. With the mystery of the missing fish solved, the people of Elm Creek could finally breathe easy.
