In physics, a force is any interaction that, when unopposed, will change the motion of an object. A force can cause an object with mass to change its velocity, i.e., to accelerate. Force can also be described as a push or a pull that acts upon an object as a result of its interaction with another object.Forces occur in pairs, which is succinctly described by Newton’s third law that states: "To every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction." Forces may be broadly classified as contact forces (like frictional forces, tensional forces, air resistance forces, and applied forces) and non-contact forces (like gravitational forces, electrical forces, and magnetic forces).The force laws (Newton’s second law, for example- F=ma, where F stands for force, m for mass, and a for acceleration) govern the effects of forces on objects. Understanding the concept of force is a prerequisite for studying physics because most physical phenomena can ultimately be described as a consequence of forces.
