Read the following passage and answer the questions-
Plastic pollution has become one of the most pressing environmental issues, as rapidly increasing production of disposable plastic products overwhelms the world's ability to deal with their waste. Over 300 million tons of plastic are produced every year, half of which is designed for single use. This has resulted in a staggering accumulation of plastic waste in our natural environment, particularly in the oceans.
Marine species ingest or are entangled by plastic debris, causing severe injuries and deaths. Plastic pollution also affects human health and resources. Microplastics, tiny plastic particles, have been found in tap water, the air we breathe, and even inside the human body, with their health impacts still largely unknown.
Efforts to address plastic pollution include improving plastic recycling rates, reducing the use of single-use plastics by promoting alternatives, and cleaning up the existing pollution. However, the effectiveness of these initiatives remains hampered by lack of global agreement on how to manage plastic waste. Without significant changes in production, use, and disposal of plastic, the situation is likely to worsen, highlighting the need for urgent action on an international scale.
