Comprehension Passage

Read the given passage and answer the following questions.

A cat’s eyes saved hundreds of lives. In 1933 Percy Shaw was driving home. He had worked all day fixing roads and was tired. Visibility was poor. The night was dark and foggy, and the road was narrow and winding. Suddenly Shaw saw two bright lights ahead of him. He stopped his car and saw a cat sitting on a fence. What he had seen were his headlights reflecting off the cat’s eyes. Looking to his right, Shaw saw that he was on the edge of a steep hill. If he hadn’t stopped to look at the cat’s eyes, he would have gone off the road and rolled down the hill.
As he thought about how the cat’s eyes had saved him, Shaw wondered what if there were little devices about the size of a cat’s eyes in the road that would reflect light from a car’s headlights. They could be placed in the road to show where the road was. It was a simple idea, but it took Shaw a while to get it to work right. The device that he created was made up of four glass beads set on an iron base and covered by a rubber molding. Shaw named his device ‘‘Catseye.’’
Shaw started a company to make and sell the device. Today these reflectors are built into roads all over the world.
