Comprehension Passage

Read the given passage and answer the following questions  -
The Silicon Valley has long been recognized as the global center for technological innovation, harboring some of the world's most prominent tech companies such as Google, Apple, and Facebook. The term 'Silicon Valley' originally referred to the region's large number of silicon chip innovators and manufacturers, but it eventually evolved to represent the leading hub for high-tech innovation and development. Located in the southern part of the San Francisco Bay Area in Northern California, Silicon Valley covers Santa Clara Valley and southern half of the San Francisco Peninsula.

The origins of Silicon Valley are often traced back to 1939 when Hewlett-Packard was established out of a garage, marking the first technology firm in the region. This was followed by the foundation of Shockley Semiconductor Laboratory in 1956, which played a significant role in the development of silicon transistor technology. However, the real catalyst for the valley's growth was the establishment of Stanford Industrial Park (now Stanford Research Park) in 1951, which aimed to bring the academic and commercial worlds closer together. This innovative integration of industry and academia paved the way for the cluster of high-tech companies we see today.

Silicon Valley's success can be attributed to its unique ecosystem that promotes innovation. The proximity to Stanford University and the University of California, Berkeley, has not only facilitated close ties between the tech industry and academia but has also provided a steady stream of talented graduates for the industry. The presence of venture capitalists has also been instrumental in the valley's growth, offering crucial financial support for startup companies.

Despite being home to many successful tech giants, the region also faces its share of challenges, including high living costs and issues related to diversity and inclusion. While these challenges persist, the spirit of innovation in Silicon Valley remains undeterred.

What marked the first technology firm in Silicon Valley?

1
The foundation of Shockley Semiconductor Laboratory
2
The establishment of Stanford Industrial Park
3
The establishment of Hewlett-Packard
4
