Read the passage and answer the following questions
In the annals of Indian history, the Santhal Rebellion of 1855-56 stands out as a formidable manifestation of tribal dissent against colonial and zamindari oppression. The Santhals, a tribal community predominantly settled in what is today known as the states of Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, and Orissa, mounted one of the most significant challenges to the British East India Company's authority. The immediate catalysts for the rebellion were the exploitative land revenue policies implemented by the British, alongside the oppression by the zamindars (landlords) and moneylenders, who together engineered a system of debt bondage and land alienation against the Santhals.
Under the leadership of Sidhu and Kanhu Murmu, the Santhals mobilized a formidable force that sought to establish a domain where they could live free from exploitation and injustice. The rebellion was marked by a series of confrontations between the Santhals and the British forces, with the former employing guerrilla tactics and showcasing extraordinary bravery. Despite their valiant effort, the rebellion was eventually suppressed by the British through heavy military engagement.
