Globalization is a composite process. It results from the convergence of a series of developments in society which are qualitatively new arrival. These include: contemporary revolution in science and technology of communication, high velocity movements of finance, capital and market, increased social mobility, migration of personnel and the emergence of a global diaspora. Its associated contributory processes are: intensification of cultural interaction among diverse groups through media exposure, increased incidence of leisure-time activities, growth in tourism, infrastructures of entertainment and marketing of cultural products, personnel and styles. In a segmental approach, analysts have studied 'financial or capital globalization,' 'telecommunication or media globalization' and 'cultural globalization' as separate developments, and then tried to view the impact of the one, for instance, financial or capital' globalization upon other segments such as the 'media', 'communication' or 'culture'. The approach has two weaknesses: first, it fails to help us in comprehending the role of the residual social structural realities and their emergent properties and the way they interact with any one of these three aspects of globalization, be it capital, communication or culture. Consequently, such treatment is unable to explain why some societies, communities or groups resist globalizatiobn and reject its institutions and ideology, whereas others accept it celebrate its arrival. The emergence of a new society inheres a basic structural transformation of economy, polity and culture, and the potential to go beyond the systemic features of a capitalist or a post-capitalist social order. Its unfolding may eventually contribute to the birth of a new social order.
