Moving towards global tourism, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways recently created an experience for the public that showcased the historical, cultural and religious significance of our rivers. In January and February, the global tourism and cruise line was abuzz with the news of the world's longest cruise ship, MV Ganga Vilas. The voyage covered approximately 32,000 km in 51 days, crossing 27 river systems of five states and two countries via the Ganga Brahmaputra river systems. Distance covered. Starting from Varanasi, the heart of Uttar Pradesh, to Dibrugarh in Assam, it had many stops and traveled to about 50 places.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Act East policy and his focus on developing national waterways made this historic water journey a reality. It was also a true display of self-reliant India with the display of indigenously built ships, completely Indian crew, Indian decorations, Indian cuisine, Indian arts, crafts and products.
